Sensory Exploration

Teaching observational skills and exploring your local natural environment using your senses!

Observation is not only one of the core skills to scientific inquiry, it is also an important quality in being aware and connected to one’s environment. Our brain is always getting input through each of our senses, whether we realize it or not. This is how humans, and all other living beings, learn to interact with their environment. However, we are often not actively aware of this, we are not actively observing.

In this activity, students will use each of their senses to practice intentional observation of their natural environment, not only teaching them a scientific skill but also encouraging the students to be more present in their environment.
