Our Special Thanks

None of this project would be possible without the help and support of all of the amazing people that we were privileged to work with along the way.

First and foremost, we would like to thank Lesandre (La Fleur) John of Petit Bordel, our research assistant, partner, local guide, and friend. Fleur’s resilience and emotional support were a constant source of strength and encouragement. Her ability to create a comfortable environment led to productive conversations and her local insight added depth to the project as a whole. We couldn't have asked for a better friend and colleague on this journey.

Thank you to Chrisenia Harry of Petit Bordel, our local coordinator and community engagement specialist – none of us could have done our projects without her.  Chrisenia’s expertise was an unwavering resource and her boundless positivity, a constant source of encouragement, brightened even the most challenging days.

Thank you to Grantley Morris and Rat who not only transported us safely around the island but filled our car rides with invaluable knowledge and lots of laughs.

Thank you to the Science teachers of the North Leeward Area Primary Schools and the Agriculture teachers of Petit Bordel Secondary for their time, knowledge, and direct contributions to this collection of activities. A special thanks goes to the following people for contributing to the brainstorming process, providing activity ideas, and helping edit and/or finalize activities: Joenette Ellis, Lawrence Hooper, Frutesha Edwards, and Jxavier White.

Thank you to the following Principals of the North Leeward Area Primary Schools for welcoming us into their offices and schools and providing us with invaluable information and resources: Myrtle Richards of Fitz-Hughes Government Primary, Lauren Matthews of Chateaubelair Methodist Primary, Janice Cyrus of Rose Hall Government Primary, Bobzie Joyette of Troumaca Government Primary, Pearlet Harry of Westwood Methodist Primary in Coulls Hill, Adonis Charles of Spring Village Methodist Primary, as well as Principal Rayon Murray of the North Leeward Technical Institute. We would like to give a specific thank you to the enthusiastic and community oriented teachers and principal of Coulls Hill Primary. As two female researchers, we felt inspired and motivated by how this entirely women-run and led school has, through dedication, hands-on learning, joy, care, and friendship, built a strong community between their school and town.

Thank you to the following volunteer educators, Ali, Tara, and Adam for your insights and help in collaboration.

Thank you to the farmers and garden-owners of Fitz Hughs, Petit Bordel, and Rose Hall for their time and opening up their homes, porches, businesses, and gardens, to use.

Lastly, this would not be possible without the support and funding of the Conflict Transformation Collaborative at Middlebury College, with a special thank you to our professors, Michael Sheridan, PhD, and Kristina Simmons, M.Ed, M.S., for providing us with this opportunity, guiding us through the process, and offering emotional support and encouragement whether it be thoughtful conversations or silly jokes under the magnolia tree, in the van, whilst petting Sultan the cat, or at the dinner table over a starfruit (or two or three).

THANK YOU!
